about us

The Laura Rodeo & Campdraft has been a long standing tradition in the heart of Cape york

What started as a few locals pulling together a makeshift arena, some donated panels, and a lot of determination has grown into one of the most anticipated weekends on the northern calendar.

Back in the day, there weren’t many events this far up the Cape—especially not ones where young riders could test their skills or families could come together for a proper bush catch-up. So, the community made it happen. No big budgets, no fancy sponsors—just sweat, teamwork, and a shared love for the land and lifestyle.

These days, it might look a bit bigger, but the heart of the rodeo hasn’t changed. It’s still run by a small committee and a big crew of volunteers. There’s something special about an event where the person running the gate might’ve been riding in it 20 years ago—or where the young bull rider you’re cheering on is the son or daughter of a past champion.

Let’s be honest, it’s no small feat pulling this together each year.
But somehow, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our sponsors, and the enthusiasm of everyone who shows up, we do it.

So whether you’ve been coming for decades or you’re rolling in
for the first time Welcome to Laura, we’re glad you’re here.
